Work Within Your Anointing

“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body… The eye can never say to the hand, ‘I don’t need you.’”¹
Each believer is designed with a unique “shape” — a God-given purpose, gifting, and role. You were intentionally crafted to fit perfectly into the place the Lord prepared for you.

Your God-Given Shape

Just like a cookie cutter creates a specific shape, the Lord formed you with a one-of-a-kind design. When you try to fit into someone else’s role, things feel strained and difficult. But when you embrace the shape He gave you, everything flows with peace and grace.

The Star Sponge Lesson

At a Bible study, sponges were cut into shapes that matched cookie cutters — except for one flexible star. It could fit everywhere, but nothing fit it perfectly.

Many of us are “stars.” We can do almost anything, but that doesn’t mean we should. Being flexible is a gift — but not if it prevents others from stepping into their calling.

Letting Others Rise

The Lord may have you start something, support it, and then step back so someone anointed for that position can lead. When each person works in their God-designed role, the entire body becomes stronger.

Why It Matters

When we operate outside our anointing, we become tired, frustrated, and overextended — and the body suffers. But when we stay in the role He shaped for us, ministry becomes lighter, fruitful, and full of His presence.

Three Beautiful Callings

  • Ministering Hearts — Encouragers, nurturers, listeners.
  • Administrative Gifts — Organizers, planners, structure-builders.
  • Stars — Flexible starters who launch, support, and then release.

All three are essential. All three reflect His heart.

Stay in His Flow

Serving with Him brings peace. Serving in your own strength brings pressure. The key is simple: move where He leads, and rest where He says rest.

You Were Made for This

You don’t need to imitate anyone else. You don’t need to fit every role. You only need to walk in the shape He formed with His own hands.

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.”⁵
“I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”⁶

Say with confidence, “Here I am, Lord. Use me.”⁴
You were made for this.

Work Within Your Anointing

Embracing the Way God Shaped You

“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body… If the foot says, ‘I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,’ that does not make it any less a part of the body… The eye can never say to the hand, ‘I don’t need you.’”¹

The apostle uses the human body to describe how believers function together, reminding us that just as every part of our physical body has a specific role, every believer has a distinct purpose within the Lord’s work. No part is unnecessary. No gift is too small. And nothing about the position God crafted for you is accidental.

He goes on to say, “Our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where He wants it… All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.”¹

Your place in His Kingdom is intentional. God designed you with a unique shape, gifting, temperament, and calling that fits exactly where He wants you to serve. When you accept this truth, comparison falls away, striving ceases, and your heart begins to rest in the assurance: “God made me for this.”²

The Cookie-Cutter Commitment

This is where the “cookie-cutter” picture becomes so powerful.
Just like a cookie cutter creates a specific shape, the Lord has formed you with a one-of-a-kind design. Your “cut-out” isn’t supposed to look like anyone else’s. The shape He crafted in you is purposeful — made for a role only you can fill.

When we try to force ourselves into someone else’s shape, nothing fits right. It takes pressure, stress, and striving. But when you embrace the design He gave you, everything aligns with peace and grace.

This becomes a commitment: to stop trying to be someone else, and to walk boldly in the shape He lovingly formed in you.

A Picture That Came to Life

At one Bible study, this truth became more than an illustration — it became a revelation. The teacher brought cookie cutters and sponges shaped to match them. Each sponge fit perfectly into its matching mold… except for one.

It was a star-shaped sponge.

Because of its flexibility, that star could be pressed into almost any mold. It would take the shape if enough pressure was applied — but it never truly fit.

That star was me.

I could fill almost any role, take almost any task, and “make things work.” But in doing so, I wasn’t moving in my anointing. I was simply being flexible. And that flexibility was allowing me to step into molds that belonged to others.

The Lord gently showed me:

  1. My gift wasn’t to fit everywhere.
  2. My gift was to start, support, and then step aside
  3. Stepping aside so others could rise into the roles they were shaped to fill.

Making Space for Others to Shine

Once I understood this, everything changed. My willingness to fill any gap wasn’t helping — it was sometimes blocking someone else’s calling.

Years ago, I began coordinating a swim team. I built it, organized it, and helped it grow. But soon the Lord nudged me: “Step aside.” It didn’t make sense, but I obeyed — and immediately, a woman stepped forward who was truly anointed for coaching. Under her leadership, the team flourished beyond anything I could have done.

This became a pattern in my life:

I would start something…
build it…
And then the Lord would show me to step aside and give it to whoever He called take it further.

My calling wasn’t to do everything — it was to encourage others.
That’s how He ultimately led me into this ministry.

Why Your Place Matters

When we operate outside of our anointing, the entire body suffers.

If the eye tries to be the ear, the body loses its hearing.
If the hand tries to be the foot, the body loses its balance.

When we force ourselves into roles we weren’t designed for:

  • We become exhausted,
  • The work becomes strained,
  • Others are hindered from rising into their calling, and
  • The body becomes spiritually “unbalanced.”

But when each person embraces the shape God has given them, everything flows with unity and grace. Ministry becomes lighter. Joy increases. And His presence rests on the work.

Your shape is not selfish — it’s essential.
Moving in your own anointing is obedience to the One who formed you.

Three Beautiful Ways God Shapes Us

1 Ministering Hearts

These are the encouragers, nurturers, listeners, and comforters. They carry God’s gentleness and compassion. They are drawn to people, and people are drawn to them. Their ministry often happens quietly, but it is deeply powerful.

2 Administrative Gifts

These are the ones who bring order, structure, and clarity. They manage details, support systems, and help ministries function with excellence. Their work is ministry — and without them, everything falls apart.

3 Stars

These are the multipurpose “star-shaped sponges.” They can fill many roles, start new things, and help launch important work. But their greatest calling is often to ignite vision, train others, and then joyfully hand it over to the person shaped for that specific position.

Each of these is vital. Each reflects the Lord’s heart.
Each is a beautiful expression of His design.

Moving in His Grace, Not Your Effort

There is a noticeable difference between working with the Lord and working for Him in your own strength. When you’re moving in your anointing, there is a sense of:

  • peace,
  • clarity,
  • gentleness,
  • and grace.

But when you step outside your anointing, everything feels heavy, burdensome, not just for you but for everyone, and forced.

That’s why, out of love, we sometimes encourage someone to step back for a season. It’s never punishment. It’s never rejection. It’s simply a commitment we’ve made:

We refuse to carry God’s work in human strength. We become
"PERECTED in WEAKNESS

We choose to stay fully aligned with His flow.

Staying in His flow, like a river flowing downstream, means:

  • embracing the shape He made you,
  • moving only when He leads,
  • resting when He says rest,
  • and relying completely on His strength.

You Were Made for This

When you step into the place God designed for you, everything changes.
Your heart finds rest.
Your spirit feels lighter.
Your work becomes worship.
And His joy begins to overflow in ways you never imagined.

So do not shrink back from who you are.
Do not apologize for the way He made you.
Do not try to imitate anyone else’s calling.

Simply offer yourself to Him and say,
“Here I am, Lord. Use me.”⁴

You are the vessel — but He is the power.
You are the instrument — but He is the Musician.
You are the shape — but He is the One who fills it.

Now boldly declare:

“I am certain that God, who began the good work within me,
will continue His work until it is finally finished.”⁵

“I praise You, because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”⁶

I will walk forward with confidence —
not in myself,
but in the One who designed me perfectly, purposefully, and lovingly.

God made me "for such a time as this."⁷
